Nature for People

Easy Access Trail, Stiperstones

Nature For People is about enriching England’s wildlife and geology for everyone. Over two-years, this project will restore and recreate some of our most valuable habitats, try out new techniques, and bring knowledge and enjoyment of our wildlife to the wider public.

Funding for Nature for People comes from a substantial grant of £10 million from the

Treasury’s Capital Modernisation Fund, established by the Government to support its desire for a modern and efficient public service.

Nature For People makes it possible for English Nature to tackle some of the long-term damaging impacts on the country’s wildlife and geological sites, and to give the public better access to, and information about, nature conservation. The funds have been allocated to eight projects, all of which must be completed by April 2004:

Projects :
1.   Alkborough Coastal Wetland Recreation
2.   Fens Restoration Project
3.   Lakes Restoration Project
4.   Modernising our National Nature Reserves
5.   Nature On-line
6.   New Reserves Through New Solutions
7.   Overgrazing in the Uplands
8.   Peatlands For People
Pond Dipping at Castle Eden Dene
