Devon

Devon has large areas of woodland, heathland, moorland and wetland as well as extensive and important coastal, geological and marine nature conservation interests.

The county is rich in the quantity and variety of its wildlife. For example, there are 17 Natura 2000 sites that are internationally important for the wildlife and natural features that they contain. There are also 10 National Nature Reserves covering woodland, culm grassland, coastal and moorland habitats and Englands only Marine Nature Reserve at Lundy, as well as 18 Local Nature Reserves. These represent the jewels in the crown of the countys wildlife and natural features.

There are more than 200 Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) which cover over 30,000ha and more than 1900 SSSI owners and occupiers. The team works with these vital land managers to help maintain the countys wealth of wildlife.
