Cheddar Gorge Somerset and Gloucestershire are now part of Natural England's South West region, which comprises Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.

Somerset and Gloucestershire

Somerset and Gloucestershire have a richly diverse landscape, with many rare habitats and species.

There are 330 Sites of Special Scientific Interest extended to approximately 69,000 hectares nearly 70% of which carries international designations with over 2100 owners and occupiers. There are 16 National Nature Reserves, five are managed by partner organisations. Other designated areas include Exmoor National Park, 5 areas of Outstanding National Beauty, (including the Mendip Hills, Wye Valley and Cotswolds AONBs) and 4 Environmentally Sensitive Areas including the Blackdown Hills.
