Hampshire and the Isle of Wight are now part of Natural England's South East region, which comprises Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Hampshire, Surrey, East and West Sussex and Kent.

Hampshire and the Isle of Wight Hampshire and the Isle of Wight are rich in biodiversity, having 162 Sites of Special Scientific Interest (of which 91 fall within the boundaries of internationally important wildlife sites) and 5 National Nature Reserves. Many rare and threatened species can be found in these areas and a number of projects relating to bats, red squirrels, many different kinds of invertebrates and plants are underway with Natural England�s Species Recovery Programme.
