North Mercia This area encompasses a diverse range of landscapes and wildlife habitats, reflected in the number of Natural Areas represented. These include the Meres and Mosses, the South Shropshire Hills and the Midlands Plateau, all of which are areas with important wildlife habitats. Candidate Special Areas of Conservation in the West Midlands include the Stiperstones, Fenn's and Whixall Mosses, a selection of quaking bogs (the West Midlands Mosses), Mottey Meadows and an inland saltmarsh. Several of these sites are managed as National Nature Reserves.
