In addition to our work on conservation of geological SSSIs, there are a number of initiatives aimed at conservation of a wider range of important geological sites, outside of the SSSI coverage, and promotion of geological conservation to a wide audience. The main non-statutory site designations are Local Nature Reserves (LNRs) and Regionally Important Geological and Geomorphological Sites (RIGS). There are also a number of other organisations involved in geological conservation.
